KANE COUNTY CHIEFS OF POLICE ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES

I. Call to Order: President Chris Merritt called the January 19, 2006 Installation Dinner Meeting to order at 7:09 p.m.

II. Pledge of Allegiance: President Merritt led the Association in the Pledge of Allegiance.

III. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Dennis presented business that needed to be heard due to time sensitivity; specifically, Sergeant Willie Mayes, Bomb Squad Commander of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office is requesting $1,800 of funds be appropriated for the purpose of obtaining an explosive detecting K-9 to replace the retiring K-9. The dog is being purchased from the Rudy Drexler’s School for Dogs Inc. Due to the time sensitivity of dog being purchased within the next two weeks, approval of expenditure by the Association is required. $2,019.30 is available in the Bomb Squad funds. President Merritt entertained a motion to approve the $1,800 of funds for the purchase of an explosive detecting K-9 for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad. Chief Pena so moved. Chief Callahan seconded the motion. Voice vote was unanimous. Motion carried.

IV. Suspension of Meeting: President Merritt entertained a motion to suspend the Regular Meeting of the Association for the Annual Installation Dinner. Chief Pena so moved. Chief Callahan seconded the motion. Voice vote was unanimous. Motion carried. The meeting was suspended at 7:12 p.m.

V. Business: President Merritt reconvened the meeting at 7:54 p.m. Chief Pena introduced the following dignitaries and officials that joined the evening’s events: Dr. James Willey, Mayor of Elburn; Mr. Tom Burgholzer, Elburn Trustee; Mr. Bill Grabarek, Elburn Trustee; Ms. Marilyn Michelini, Village President of Montgomery; Ms. Deborah Seyller, Kane County Circuit Clerk; Mr. Clint Hull, First Assistant State’s Attorney; Mr. John Barsanti, Kane County State’s Attorney; and Chief Judge Don Hudson.

President Merritt presented the 2006 recipient of the President’s Award to Commander Dave Jannusch, St. Charles Police Department, for his outstanding dedication to the Association and his work and leadership as leg leader for the Kane County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Commander Jannusch thanked the Association stating it is an honor serving.

Chief Pena introduced Chief Judge Donald Hudson who presided over the swearing in of the new officers; specifically:

  • Chief James Linane, Elburn PD President
  • Chief Dan Callahan, Wayne PD Vice President
  • Lieutenant Joe Frega, Geneva PD Secretary
  • Chief Edward Dennis, West Dundee PD Treasurer
  • Chief James Lamkin, St. Charles PD Sergeant at Arms

President Linane addressed the Association on his background in law enforcement and his professional work ethics. He expressed deep thanks and appreciation to those who support him, past and current; specifically past employer Carol Stream Police Department, current Elburn Board members and the police department, friends, family and the Association. He stated he looks forward to continuing the work in progress and working with the new Board members in serving the Association in the most professional manner possible. President Linane presented Chief Merritt with an award for his service as President of the Kane County Chiefs of Police Association in 2005. Chief Merritt thanked the Association for the past year and their support recognizing the great group of colleagues he has the privilege of working with. He looks forward to continuing to serve.

VI. Chief Merritt made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chief Pena seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
